Format words
Virtual internship, remote internship, online internship, tele-working, telecommuting: the brochure treats these as the same format fact — no commute, laptop work. Simulation: a structured professional task that may or may not include a live host; it should be labelled as such. Placement: a specific role inside an organization, which this website will not imply without written confirmation. Cohort: a group on a shared calendar. Track: a practice context (consulting, finance, marketing, data, entrepreneurship), not an employer brand.
Work words
Brief: the question, audience, constraints, and deliverable. Source log: a running list of evidence with dates. Model: a spreadsheet that can change when assumptions change. Sensitivity analysis: testing whether the recommendation survives those changes. Synthesis: choosing what matters. Stakeholder management: accounting for people who can block or enable the recommendation. Next steps: owners, sequence, and limits after the deck.
Support words
Internship coach: the assigned professional development support described in the brochure. Coaching call: a scarce live review. 360° support: habits, skills, and communication, not unlimited access. Webinar: a teaching session around a method. Alumni support: community after or around the program, not a guaranteed job board. Performance review: a structured evaluation of the work and the working habits.
Claim words
Certificate: a completion credential for submitted work. Best-performance award: a subset recognition described in the brochure. Recommendation / reference letter: a statement a reviewer can stand behind. Credential ID: a verification code if a cohort issues one. Employment: a status GVI virtual experience is not, unless a separate contract says so.
How to use the glossary in an argument
If two adults are using “internship” to mean different things, stop and pick definitions from this page. Most family conflict about online programs is vocabulary conflict plus an unpublished price.
More terms families trip over
Hours per week: independent work plus live time; confirm both. Model solution: a teaching example, not a student’s portfolio piece. Performance review: structured evaluation of work and habits, not a vibe. Best-performance award: subset recognition. Credential URL: only if real. Host: an organization the student may or may not have a written relationship with — do not infer from a 2021 brochure line.
Pathway versus offering versus track: pathway is the five modules; offering is the wrapper (foundation, online, school, workshop); track is the question flavor. Mixing these words is how people buy a workshop thinking they bought a twelve-week internship.
