tracks / GVI

Tracks choose the question. The modules stay honest.

GVI practice tracks are not fake employer brands. They are contexts: consulting, finance, marketing, data, and entrepreneurship questions running through the same curriculum.

Not employers

A track is a practice context. Resume language stays “virtual internship pathway,” not a forged title.

Same spine

Research, analysis, needs, recommendation, next steps — every track.

Different failure modes

Consulting hides in frameworks; finance hides in unused rows; marketing hides in adjectives; data hides in charts; entrepreneurship hides in vision.

Choose a context

Pick the discomfort you actually want to practice.

If you want a logo, you want something this site will not invent. If you want a skill, pick a track.

Consulting

Issue trees, synthesis, a decision a manager could take.

Open consulting

Finance

Assumptions, models, sensitivities, a number with a caveat.

Open finance

Marketing

Consumer needs, positioning trade-offs, a narrative a client could run.

Open marketing

Data

From messy tables to a claim with limits.

Open data

Still unsure?

Start with foundation and module one, then choose.

How to use tracks

Read two track pages, not five. Pick the one whose failure mode you are willing to meet. Tell your apply note. Schools should offer at most two tracks unless staffed for more.

Switching

Allowed when the brief is still young. Not allowed as an escape from module two. Mentors should notice track-hopping that coincides with the first spreadsheet.

Older brochure examples

The 2021 materials described example domains such as tax, investment analysis, product, and retail planning. Those are historical illustrations of professional practice. This site’s tracks are generalized so we do not impersonate current named employers or current mentor biographies.

A five-minute picking exercise

Write the last assignment you enjoyed. If it was structuring a messy argument, try consulting. If it was a table, try data or finance. If it was understanding why people choose, try marketing. If it was making something exist, try entrepreneurship. Then read that track’s failure mode. If you flinch, you probably picked correctly.

If you enjoy none of those, start with foundation and module one on a school-operations question. You do not need a brand identity to begin a virtual internship. You need a finishable brief.

Schools choosing tracks

Offer one track if staff is thin. Offer two if you can mark both. Do not offer five because the poster looks like a university catalog. Students will pick the prestige word and then meet a spreadsheet they were not staffed to learn. A single well-run consulting or data cohort beats a mall of unsupervised flavors.

Tell families that tracks are practice contexts. Put that sentence in the parent letter. Otherwise a finance track becomes, in the parent group chat, a banking internship. GVI will not clean up a rumor we could have prevented with one line.

If students want a different flavor after week one, allow one change while the brief is young. After the first marked analysis, switching is usually fear. Name the fear and keep the file.

Each page covers a different part of the remote internship pathway so families can compare structure, work, and evidence.
