Coaching is scarce on purpose. Bring a draft.

The brochure describes 360° professional development with an assigned coach and two coaching calls. GVI uses that scarcity to raise the standard of the conversation.

Before the call

Student sends the current file, three questions, and a one-paragraph update.

During the call

Mentor pressure-tests evidence, logic, and the recommendation — not biography.

After the call

Student revises and records what changed. No change means the call did not happen educationally.

What 360° support means here

It means the coach can look at work habits, analysis, communication, and next-step planning, not only at one slide. It does not mean unlimited access or a private career agent. Two calls, plus written comments and group forums, is a design. Students who want a third conversation should show that the first two produced revisions.

Webinars and alumni support, as described in the brochure, sit around coaching. They are not a substitute for comments on this student’s file.

Quality of feedback

Useful comments cite a sentence, a cell, or a slide. They name the missing source, the leap in logic, the stakeholder who would object, or the next-step that is still a slogan. The mentor-feedback article and the insights piece on how mentors review work expand this standard.

Student obligations

Arrive on time in the working language of the cohort. Do not make the mentor hunt for the file. Do not ask the mentor to choose your university major in lieu of improving the recommendation. Do ask when you are choosing between two evidence-backed options.

What mentoring will not do

Write the report. Guarantee a recommendation letter. Confirm a price or a 2026 date this site does not publish. Name you as an employee of a host you did not work for.

A one-page call prep sheet

Recommendation in one sentence. File link. Three forks. What you tried. What you want the coach to pressure-test. Send it twelve hours ahead if you can. Coaches who receive this sheet can spend the scarce minutes on judgment. Coaches who receive nothing will spend them on logistics, which wastes the brochure’s two-call design.

After the call, write two bullets in the decision log before you stand up. Memory decays. Remote professionalism is writing it down.

No-shows and empty files

If the student misses the call without the file, the recovery is a written comment cycle, not an automatic extra live hour. Scarcity is the design. Unlimited calls turn coaches into on-demand tutors and erase the remote skill of arriving prepared.

If the student arrives with an empty deck and a good excuse, mark the excuse as logistics and still require a dated v1 within 48 hours. Kindness without a file is how cohorts slide into webinars. GVI mentoring is file-first.

Document no-shows in the performance review. Patterns matter more than one bad week. Families who want extra calls should hear this standard at apply time, not as a surprise when they request a third conversation instead of a revision.
