The portfolio system is how GVI keeps briefs, models, decks, reviews, and reflections from disappearing into chat threads.
Store the files that prove the skill, not every screenshot of effort.
A short note that names the skill each artifact demonstrates.
Portfolio review is where students practice accurate application wording.
The brief, source log, spreadsheet or analysis memo, consumer-needs notes, recommendation deck, internship report, performance-review summary, certificate, and a 150-word reflection. Optional: a before-and-after slide to show revision.
Do not include other people’s model solutions. Do not include confidential materials a cohort did not clear. Do not include a fake offer letter.
Select artifacts that show different skills. Explain the question and audience. Identify the gap the next project should attack. The portfolio-review article is the student-facing version of this ritual.
A certificate is a claim by the program. A portfolio is a claim the student can demonstrate. GVI wants both, in that order of durability. The insights article on certificate versus portfolio evidence exists because families often over-weight the PDF badge.
Follow the brochure: certifications section, provided wording, no employment frame. Link to work you are allowed to share. If you cannot share the file, describe the method, not a fake public case study.
Do not wait until module five to create folders. Students lose week-one briefs, which were often their honestest writing. Create 00-brief through 05-report on the first afternoon of foundation. Put the README in immediately: one-sentence project, even if it will change.
Coordinators can require a screenshot of the folder tree as the first submission. It feels petty. It prevents a June scavenger hunt.
Open the index, not the whole junk drawer. Pick one research artifact, one analysis artifact, and the recommendation. Practice a two-minute walkthrough with the files closed, then once with them open for a number. If you cannot do the closed version, rewrite the executive summary until you can. That is the system working.
Remove anything you could not defend: model solutions, a teammate’s unnamed work presented as yours, unsourced market sizes. It is better to show three clean files than twelve decorative ones. Interviewers can tell when they have been given a pile.
If the interviewer only wants a PDF, send the report. If they want LinkedIn, use certifications. If they want a deck, send the recommendation with sources on the slides. The portfolio exists so you can answer all three without inventing a fourth object the night before.

Each page covers a different part of the remote internship pathway so families can compare structure, work, and evidence.
